04 — PHOTO CLEANUP GUIDE
A cleaner image does not always require a complicated editor. Cleanly separates the two jobs people need most: rebuilding a selected part of a photo and isolating the main subject from its background. Pick the tool that matches the result you want, make a focused correction, and keep the original dimensions when you export.
Use object removal when something should disappear but the rest of the scene should remain. It works well for passers-by in travel photos, signs, cables, small marks, street clutter, and objects near the edge of a frame. Click a clear subject or paint the complete unwanted area, then review the rebuilt background before downloading.
Use background removal when you want to keep the main person or product and replace everything behind it. Export a transparent PNG for design work, choose white for a clean catalog image, or apply a solid color for profiles and listings. Keep and Remove brushes let you correct difficult edges before export.
Your original photo, selection, and result stay in your browser while these tools process the image. There is no account to create and no photo library stored by Cleanly. Your browser may cache the files needed for processing so future edits start faster; that cache can be cleared in your browser settings.
Object removal has to imagine what was hidden behind the selected area. A precise selection gives it a clear boundary and more nearby texture to work with. If a person covers a wall, road, or sky, select the complete silhouette and a small margin. If the target crosses several very different surfaces, try separate passes instead of asking one large edit to reconstruct everything at once.
A result that looks clean in a small preview may still contain soft edges, repeated patterns, or a faint outline. Use the before-and-after control, inspect the image at its natural size, and check straight lines around the edited area. For a background cutout, preview both transparent and solid backgrounds because light and dark colors reveal different edge problems.
